When job search in social networks really works

When you are a specialist

Or relate to a certain group of professions. The audience of social networks is different, and they are looking for different specialists in them.

So, VKontakte is mainly looking for employees with no work experience, students, seasonal workers. Facebookbook is more focused on creative vacancies (journalists, PR specialists, marketers, middle managers), Odnoklassniki - on working specialties, and LinkedIn - on IT specialists, financiers, HR-s and Facebook audience.
When you have diligent profiles on social networks

Do not underestimate the impact of social networks on a career. Your profiles in social networks should not talk about double life, contain swearing and intimate details of life. However, they should not distract from work either.

Speaking of the “correctness” of maintaining social media profiles. I would like to pay attention to LinkedIn. Due to the fact that the network is relatively new, many do not understand its advantages.

LinkedIn is a social network of professional and business contacts. With its help, many recruiters are looking for specialists around the world with the right set of skills. This is a network in which more than 332 million people from all over the world are registered and more than 4 million companies are represented on their own pages.

Therefore, you are especially keen on a LinkedIn profile if you want to work for an international company or are passively looking for career opportunities.

From the basic rules for maintaining a profile on LinkedIn:

    Add your business photo;
    indicate your strengths and ask friends to vote for your skills - the wider your profile on social networks is filled, the better;
    synchronize your contacts with other social networks;
    add profiles in different languages;
    make contacts with interested companies, recruiters and specialists.

When you do networking as such

Networking is the search for social capital in social networks. These may be friends and acquaintances from life with whom you continue to communicate on the network, or they may be friends with whom you meet directly on the network and “make friends” in the same place.

Networking rules are simple and complex at the same time:

    need to maintain relationships with interesting people, but not to be intrusive;
    First, be useful to someone, and then yourself to seek benefits;
    be mandatory, especially if you have already helped once.

Even if you are close and familiar with everything described above, when looking for a job, you should consider social networks only as one of many job search tools. If you are not interested in the communication format of social networks as such, if you do not spend your time in them, the search for work in social networks is not for you.
